Our Club.
Our Story
DYRSL is the vibrant entertainment hub on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. For more than 85 years, we’ve been here for veterans, their families, and the broader community.
Today, our popular venues include Courtyard, Battery House and Flame, to enjoy good times and great dining. We’re also known for our events ranging from major concerts to friendly bingo nights, our car wash and Zone Bowling, our retirement community Oceangrove, our support of local charities, and our continuing tradition of honouring the fallen every day.
Our history dates back to 26 January 1937, when a small group gathered to form the Dee Why/Collaroy Sub-Branch of the RSL.
In July of that year, the RSL state branch granted permission for an affiliation and an appropriate location on Pittwater Road called Luana Hall. After many years of dances, ‘card parties’ and fundraising, the club purchased the venue for itself.
Since those early days, DYRSL has grown to a membership base of over 75,000, with our club hosting multiple restaurants, pubs, cafés and entertainment venues.
Yet as we have grown, we have never forgotten the reason we are here, which is why we pause all activities to recite The Ode at 6:00pm every day.
Everything we do is driven by a spirit of service. We respect, support and celebrate our members, visitors and community. You are always welcome and always well looked after at DYRSL.
Our Team
We are a proud community-based organisation that has been well entrenched in Dee Why and the Northern Beaches for the past 70 years. We embrace our rich history, fusing this with innovation and passion to deliver a truly unique club for our members and the wider population to enjoy.
Behind the good times, we have a serious purpose.
We are here in the spirit of service.
And it’s our honour.
The Ode
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn,
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.
