Responsible Conduct Of Gambling
The Gambling Legislation Amendment (Responsible Gambling) Act 1999 and other regulations aim to ensure that registered clubs and hotels adopt responsible practices for gambling activities conducted on their premises. DYRSL is committed to the principles of Responsible Conduct of Gaming.

Problem gambling may be characterised by a loss of control over gambling, especially over the scope and frequency of gambling, the level of wagering and the amount of leisure time devoted to gambling. Many negative consequences result from this loss of control such as failure of relationships, finances and employment.

Unlike alcohol-related problems, gambling abuses are more difficult to detect. Affordability is very important and employees play a primary role in observing, monitoring and communicating with patrons and management.

DYRSL’s responsible gambling practices recognise that the vast majority of those patrons who participate in gambling do so as an enjoyable activity but that for some, gambling causes significant problems.

Characteristics of problem gambling include:

  • Anxiety, guilt or depression over gambling
  • Giving up social or recreational activities in order to gamble
  • Chasing losses
  • Repeated and failed attempts to give up gambling
  • Relationship breakdowns
  • Large debts

DYRSL is a member of Clubsafe Premium and persons are able to sign up to MVSE whenever DYRSL is open for trading. Persons can book in a time to organise a meeting for self-exclusion or walk in to sign up.

Responsible Service of Alcohol
No alcohol can be sold or supplied to anyone under 18. It’s against the law. DYRSL is a proud member of the Northern Beaches Liquor Accord.

If a staff member suspects a patron is becoming intoxicated, he/she should consult with a Manager or Supervisor who is currently working with he/she at that time, if a decision is made not to serve any more alcohol to this patron, all staff are to abide by this decision, and the patron must leave the premises in accordance with DYRSLs Responsible Service of Alcohol guidelines and the current Liquor Act.

Below is a principal of responsible servicing of liquor, please read it as it fully explains the policy DYRSL endeavours to achieve.

Principles of Serving Alcohol

  • No liquor promotions that encourage binge drinking or drunkenness or are discriminatory or likely to appeal to minors
  • No admission of intoxicated persons
  • No service to intoxicated patrons/ patrons becoming intoxicated

  • Patron behaviour not to adversely impact the neighbourhood or other patrons
